Trevor Keels is coming off his rookie season, where he played three games for the New York Knicks and averaged 1.0 points per contest.
He was on a two-way contract, so he also played in the G League and averaged 13.9 points, 2.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.0 steals per contest while shooting 42.5% from the field and 35.5% from the three-point range in 25 regular season games (he also appeared in 13 Showcase Cup games).
On July 19, Keith Smith of Spotrac reported that the Knicks had signed Keels to another two-way contract.
Via Smith: "Trevor Keels has re-signed with the New York Knicks on a two-way contract, a league source told @spotrac."
Keels performed well in the G League, so this could be a good move for him to continue to develop, as there is no risk in signing a player to a two-way contract.
This summer, Keels played for the Knicks in NBA Sumer League and averaged 10.8 points per contest, which ranked fifth on the team.
The 19-year-old played one season of college basketball for Duke and was the 42nd pick in the 2022 NBA Draft.
As for the Knicks, they have made the NBA playoffs in two out of the previous three seasons.
This past year, they were the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference and beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round (which was their first time winning a series since 2013).
That said, they lost in the second round to the Miami Heat in six games.
